“Silesian Jerusalem”. The most important Marian sanctuary in Lower Silesia – a baroque architectural marvel.
Why is it worth visiting the Basilica?
Wambierzyce isthe most important pilgrimage place in Lower Silesia. Over 300,000 pilgrims visit them every year! A Baroque basilica with a miraculous painting of the Virgin Mary, 57 Calvary chapels on the hills and a 750-year-old tradition of worship. The town is a copy of Jerusalem: it has a square (Valley of Jehoshaphat), a river (Kedron) and hills (Sinai, Tabor).
History – From a figurine to a basilica
According to legend, in 1218, blind Jan of Raszew regained his sight by praying in front of a statue of Mary on a linden tree. Today there is a monumental temple from 1715-1723. In 1936, Pope Pius XI gave it the title of Minor Basilica. In the evening, the facade glows with hundreds of light bulbs (illumination from the early 20th century!).

Interior of the Basilica
- Wonderful image:13th century figurine of the Queen of Families (28 cm).
- Pulpit:Baroque work of art in the shape of a boat.
Calvary of Wambierzyce (57 chapels)
The walk takes approximately 2 hours. You will see “Golgotha”, “The Lord’s Tomb” and the panorama of Szczeliniec. It makes the greatest impressionJerusalem Gate.
Movable Nativity Scene
A mechanical miracle at the foot of Calvary. Over 800 figures, including 300 movable! The clock mechanism powers biblical and secular scenes (mine, slaughterhouse).
